Catherine Loria and Andrew Clarke were proclaimed grand champion performers at the WCOPA finals in Hollywood recently.
What a great way to start the week with such good news! We just heard that another Filipino has made it in the World Championships of Performing Arts held recently in Hollywood. Thirteen-year-old Filipino delegate Catherine Loria from Tiaong, Quezon, was proclaimed grand champion in the junior division, while a Jamaican, Andrew Clarke, won in the senior level.
Loria sang Yolanda Adam’s version of “I Believe I Can Fly” at the finals, besting four other vocalists–two of them were Filipinos (Tippy dos Santos and Rachel Razon), while the two others were from New Zealand and Ukraine.

Nonprofit organization Canvas, which dedicates itself to promoting greater awareness for Philippine art, culture, and environment, has partnered with US-based Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency to launch the Canvas Story Writing for Young Children Competition.
The top five entries will be reviewed by Sandra Dijkstra literary agent Kelly Sonnack, who has previously worked with authors and illustrators in Singapore and brought their work to international attention. Sonnack has found success with Jin Pyn Lee’s The Elephant and the Tree, which will be published by Running Press in spring 2009.
