
The five-piece jazz ensemble Unit Asia performs in Manila this October as part of the group’s Asian tour that takes it to five Southeast Asian cities, including Singapore, Brunei, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok.
Heavyweights in their own right, Unit Asia members are Japanese Isao Miyoshi on guitar, Thai Koh Mr. Saxman on saxophone, Malaysian pianist Tay Cher Siang, Japanese bassist Shigeki Ippon, and Japanese drummer Hiroyuki Noritake.
The jazz band performs at Merk’s Bar Bistro at Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati City on October 25, 7:30 p.m., with Pinoy saxophonist Tots Tolentino, and with bossa nova singer Sitti at the Music Museum in Greenhills, San Juan, on October 28, 8 p.m. The October 25 affair is strictly invitational, but the October 28 performance is free and open to the public. Reservations are required, and attendees are encouraged to come in smart casual.

They’re good! I especially like the first song: the song for unit asia or something. It’s obvious that they’ve been trained as soloists, each capable of performing on his own. But they’re as good together!
