The iconic San Miguel Pale Pilsen is aiming to set two world records for the Oktoberfest this year: for the biggest beer-toasting crowd ever and the longest beer bar.
The world-record-breaking attempts happen this Friday, September 5, all over Ortigas Center in Mandaluyong City, as beer manufacturer San Miguel Brewery sets up a 600-meter bar area stretching throughout San Miguel Avenue, from Julia Vargas to Lourdes Avenue. This should surpass Taiwan’s Guinness world record of a 240-meter-long bar.
Open to the public, the opening of Oktoberfest, which runs for 120 days, is expected to gather a mass of beer lovers to break the Las Vegas record of 13,500 beer lovers coming together for a toast.
Beer, of course, wouldn’t be complete without good music, so San Miguel Pale Pilsen will be bringing in some entertainment as well. Forty of the country’s hottest bands, plus the popular American rock band Third Eye Blind, will be setting the mood for partying. Rivermaya, the Dawn, Afterimage, Nyoy Volante, Paolo Santos, Jimmy Bondoc, Nina, Rico Blanco, Reggae Mistress, and Guarana are among the featured artists.
The San Miguel Oktoberfest will also be held simultaneously in Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Olongapo, and Laguna.
To celebrate San Miguel Beer’s 118th year, San Miguel Brewery is unveiling a limited-edition pale lager with malty notes, balanced with floral and citrussy hops. Made of 100 percent malt, this beer promises to be full flavored yet light bodied, sweetish in taste and smooth on the finish.
