The Judy Ann Santos starrer, Ploning, will soon be showing in select theaters in Canada. The debut film of the avant-garde Panoramanila Pictures Co. has received some good reviews.
Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Nestor Torre says this of Ploning: “There are many things to like about Dante Nico Garcia’s first feature film: Its loving tribute to small-town life, folk tradition and timeless tenets; its textured characters, each with an affecting story to tell; its private locales; its actors deeply felt performances; and its shared insights about the different forms of love that bind people to each other.”
“Simply grand!” Tito Valiente of Business Mirror writes of the film. “As the woman described as someone who makes peope forget the absence of rains, Judy Ann Santos as Ploning justifies that hyperbole for everything about her in this film is grand and sweeping.”
Whether you’re a Juday fan or not, you’d want to see this movie as it shows a side of the Philippines that the international audience hasn’t seen–its picturesque landscape, its tranquility, and its people.
