Filipinos abroad can now purchase rare recordings of Joey Ayala’s albums from his official site.
Available for download in MP3 format are Panganay ng Umaga, which contains songs Ayala wrote in the mid-’70s; Magkabilaan, an album from “a contradictory time”; Mga Awit ng Tanod-Lupa, taken to be the official album of Ayala’s group Bagong Lumad; a soundtrack to the Ballet Philippines production of Encantada; Lumad sa S’yudad, possibly the only rondalla-inspired piece of recorded music ever to be recognized by pop ears.
Also included are 16 Love Songs; Basta’t May Saging, which features music written for specific advocacies; Mga Awit ng Mandaragat, a collaboration with like-minded artists Noel Cabangon, Mlou Matute, Cynthia Alexander, Bayang Barrios, Mike Villegas, Onie Badiang, and Irma Tengasantos; and the soundtrack for Teatrong Mulat’s puppet-theater version of Sita at Rama. Album prices are between $8.99 and $9.99 each (in comparison, audio CDs available on Amazon start at $18).
Sign-up is required for purchases, and payments can be made through Paypal. Buyers are allowed unlimited download of the MP3s within two months of purchase.
