We’re holding our breath for Panoramanila’s Ploning, which opens this month. If the stills of this 35mm-format film are any way to judge, we say the movie looks promising and Judy Ann Santos, who essays the lead, seems to have chosen a good project to mark her 30th birthday. Santos plays the town belle who has been waiting for years for her beau to return.
Another reason we’re looking forward to Ploning is that the film is produced by Panoramanila, the “new kid on the block” wanting to revolutionize the industry with its “independent cinema spirit” and “commercial filmmaking sensibilities.” The Panoramanila team is composed of people from independent and commercial cinema, so Ploning will be a make-or-break thing for them.
Shot entirely in Cuyo, Palawan, Ploning debuts in Philippine cinemas on April 26, with regular screenings on April 30. The film will be shown internationally in May in New York, London, Dubai, and Singapore.
