The Holy Week [Semana Santa] for many Filipinos affords us a few days’ vacation when we can go away for a well-deserved break or seek some quiet and do some deep thinking. For others, it is an opportunity to do some penance by recreating the events leading to Christ’s crucifixion and his rising from the dead.

Estan Cabigas documents Semana Santa in the Philippines in these timeless photographs. This year, will you be spectator or participant?
