Kaida Gallery celebrates International Women’s Day with two back-to-back shows paying tribute to the power of women as artists and subjects: “Likhanglila,” a group exhibition of six Filipina visual artists, and “Cross Section,” featuring new works of fine arts students from the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP).

“Likhanglila” is Kaida Gallery’s tribute to Filipina visual artists. The exhibition presents recent works by six contemporary women artists who have been practicing and honing their art as individuals from the early 1990s to the present: Plet Bolipata, Marina Cruz, Keiye Miranda, Pamela Yan Santos, Mervy Pueblo, and Maria Cristina Valdezco.

“Cross Section,” on the other hand, features the works of TUP arts students Dave Alcon, Sherwin Callejo, Emard Canedo, Jhom Centeno, Gerald Andrew Roldan, Eduardo Santos Jr., Arem San Pedro, and Moises Villanueva. The all-male show features the artists’ individual tributes to women, in cognizance of women’s strengths and weaknesses and their extraordinary struggles and sacrifices.

“Likhanglila” will be shown at Kaida Gallery’s main exhibition space while “Cross Section” will be shown in the gallery’s Gray Wall. The two exhibits opened simultaneously yesterday, March 9, and will run until March 26.

Kaida Gallery is an art space devoted to showcasing works by contemporary Philippine artists. It features young, dedicated, and emerging painters and sculptors as well as supporting collaborations between them and established names in Philippine art. It also believes in supporting the efforts of women artists and a nascent generation of young and talented painters.
