Myth: You can only go to Batanes once a year.
Fact: You can actually go any time of the year. The locals say January is the best month, as this is when you get witness “winter” in this part of the Philippines.

Myth: Electricity is rationed in Batanes.
Fact: No, Batanes is not the backwater that you think it is. The island has 24-hour electricity, so you don’t get to miss your favorite shows on cable television. (And yes, they do have cable over there.)

The local Ivatan wear the vakul, a headpiece made of straw, which reaches down to the backside and shelters farmers from the heat and rain.

Myth: Batanes is disconnected from the rest of the Philippines.
Fact: There is Internet connection in Batanes, so you get to e-mail, chat, and read the news while you’re there. All major telecommunications providers have strong signals in the island, so you’ll still be within reach.

Myth: You’ll most likely be stranded in Batanes.
Fact: Asian Spirit flies to Batanes five times a week from Manila–it is the only airline to ply this route.

just wanna ask, how to go to there..what are the means of transportation going to batanes, thanks!Ü

  • May 7, 2008 @ 2:38 pm

@nine: Thanks for dropping by! SEAIR flies to Batanes Tuesdays and Saturdays from Manila, while Asian Spirit has flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Someone tipped me off that there’s a ship, the Ivatan Princess, that brings you to Batanes from Ilocos Norte, so you can go by land. I am not sure how updated the shipping info is though.

I hope to hear some answers…(detailed)…heheheehhe…if that is not too much to ask..tnx Karla…
