
The Oblation is the iconic symbol of the University of the Philippines.
In time for the 100th year of the University of the Philippines, the UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP ICW) is launching the UP Centennial Gawad Likhaan, a literary contest with more than a million pesos worth of prizes.
A cash award worth P200,000 will be offered for original, book-length works in each of these categories: a novel or short story collection in English; a novel or short story collection in Filipino; a poetry collection in English; a poetry collection in Filipino; a full-length work or collection of creative nonfiction in English; and a full-length work or collection of essays in Filipino.
The Gawad Likhaan competition is open to all Filipino citizens, including those holding dual citizenship, except for members and staff of the UP ICW.
Entries should be submitted to the Board of Judges, UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP-ICW), College of Arts and Letters, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. The deadline for submissions is on March 31, 2008, at 5 p.m.
