PinoyCentric and stage critic Gibbs Cadiz—big fans of Philippine theater—are sponsoring 10 bloggers on a walking tour of the new PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) Center in Quezon City and a matinee show of Christine Bellen’s Batang Rizal on August 25, Saturday.
The one-hour walkthrough of the PETA building, starting at 1:30 p.m., will give the participants an idea of how a theater production is run and what happens backstage. They will see how elements meld into a complete theater experience during the performance later on the same afternoon.
Who may join: Active bloggers who are willing to write about the experience of observing a stage production and seeing how the final piece turns out.
How to join: Interested bloggers may e-mail Gibbs at gibbs_c@yahoo.com to signify their intent to join the tour and watch the performance. Participants will be chosen on a first-come-first-served basis.
What to do afterward: Write a 300- to 500-word review of the tour and the play. It doesn’t need to be as eloquent as a Palanca piece. Tell us what you enjoyed about it and how you were touched by it.
A prize for the best piece: Because we believe in rewarding efforts, PinoyCentric is giving away a Moleskine reporter notebook to the piece that moved us the most. (The Moleskine is a legendary notebook used by European thinkers and artists for the past two centuries, from Picasso to Van Gogh, from Ernest Hemingway to Bruce Chatwin.)
Deadlines: All reviews should be posted before August 31, Friday. Gibbs Cadiz and PinoyCentric’s Armand Frasco and Karla Maquiling will go through all the entries and announce the winners on September 3, Monday.

Batang Rizal
( August 25,2007)
It was a great experience to be part of the PETA Tour. First of all I would like to Thank Pinoycentric for the invitation. I was very happy when I saw Ms. Cecille Garucho because I used to watch her cooking at Tele-aralan when I was a kid. And my Dad, Claudio Tinio ( cousin of the late Rolando Tinio) used to be a PETA member.
The Bloggers have experienced how its like to be in a play. Like acting, wearing costumes and being on stage. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.
I was with my husband and seven year old son when I watched the play Batang Rizal. I wonder how its like to be in the time of our National hero. I’ve been to the house of Rizal in Calamba when I was in High School during our Educational Tour. And I can picture myself standing in their dining area.
I can compare my son to our National hero because just like Rizal he is very studious and ask a lot of questions. Would you believe that at seven he is already reading the books of Rizal like Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. I hope someday he can also write his own book.
Everybody can be like Batang Rizal if only you are willing to learn more than what you read in the books. Life’s experiences are better than what you’ve learnt in School. We learn from our mistakes and we see to it that we will not commit the same mistakes. Learn from the past and it will make you a better person today.
well, it was very heart warming. i like Mark a lot as Pepe…it just remineds as about how great our national hero is. The actors and actresses were very great. Congratulations for a very successful play.

Why po may mga inconsistent lines sa play!? Sabi nasa elementary school tapos biglang mataas na paaralan. Noong una 2008 tapos bglang naging 2007! gulo ha for me as one of the viewer ( a critic too!).
well! ok sana at sobrang ganda ng lines, kaso ung mga naglalagay ng props eh hndi malaman kung kasali ba sa scene!

will anyone please summarize batang rizal for me??? please
It was a great priviledge for me, as a student, that there is still an educational theater that would inculcate our fertile and young minds in terms of a funny, historical overview of the concept.A great job–PETA!
Kudos to you guys..
Take Care & More Power!!!
