DISCOVER. CELEBRATE.” the Pistahan Parade will be a tour of the Philippine archipelago and will highlight four distinct clusters: Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao (the three main regions of the Philippines) and “Bayanihan” (Global Community).

Each cluster will have dancing contingents, marching bands, colorful floats and lively folk dance groups. In addition, each cluster will feature a hero, a landmark and an event that are unique to that region:

LUZON CLUSTER

Hero: Jose Rizal
Landmark: Parish Church and Santacruzan
Event: Manila Traffic

VISAYAS CLUSTER

Hero: Lapu-Lapu
Destination: Boracay Beach
Event: A-Day Leyte Landing

MINDANAO CLUSTER

Hero: Sultan Kuldarat
Icon: Vinta Boat
Event: Scuba Diving

The “BAYANIHAN” (GLOBAL COMMUNITY) CLUSTER is intended for groups that are local or global in scope.

The highlight of the Bayanihan Cluster is the re-enactment of the Filipino “bayanihan tradition,” where Filipino American youth groups will carry a traditional nipa hut down Market Street, to symbolize that the next generation of Filipino Americans are taking Filipino traditions to the next level.

The Pistahan Parade will take place on Sunday, August 12, 2007. Starting on Main Street, the Parade will march down Market Street, turn left on Fourth Street and end on Folsom Street.

Judging Panel:

On Market Street, corner of New Montgomery Street, next to the Palace Hotel. This is where parade contingents will perform in front of a panel of judges for a chance to win the “Best Overall Contingent Award.”
