89. Ang baso ng Nescafe ang pinaka mabuting gamitin pang-"ispirit of the glass", dahil makapal at hindi madaling mabasag. Madalas mag-yayaan ang barkada na mag-"spirit of the glass" pag nagbabakasyon sa probinsya, o pag brownout.

I know, I've been living under a midwest rock but I just discovered "Nostalgia Manila" and at this ghoulish time of the year its a hoot! I especially dig their Nostalgia Radio!
Check it out!

Todos los Santos is a grand celebration in every corner of Catholic Philippines. A few days before the big day of November 1, people already will be sprucing up the graves of their departed ones. Services are available everywhere, from kids touting paint and cleanup jobs to contractors installing tents and electric lights. In high end cemeteries, grand 2-story villas are testament to oneupmanship tendencies and may cost upwards to 10 million pesos ($180,000). In public humble cemeteries, the ordinary folks, inter their dead in niches that can be 6-8 storeys high. There can be no lack of festiveness though, rich or poor. On the big day, traffic stops at the cemeteries while other main roads will be deserted.

One of my biggest challenges yesterday, October 29, when we visited this public cemetery where my paternal grandfather and relatives are buried, is to time my picture when nobody will be blocking my view or intruding in the desolate image I wanted to show. In just 2 days, it will be difficult to see a niche without a flower or a candle or people teeming around celebrating life rather boisterously and joyously (not solemnly). Todos los Santos after all is already a party.

Farl, from last year's commemoration

East Coast Filipino-American bands The Kuwagos, The Happy Analogues and Bleud will fuse their music with West Coast artists for a noble cause at the Leyte Benefit Concert to be held at Club Romeo, San Pedro, California on Nov. 11, 2006.

This landmark concert is to be spearheaded by Leyte Benefit prime mover Perf De Castro to raise funds for the families and victims of the Leyte mudslide, which literally buried the small towns of St. Bernard and Guinsaugon in Leyte, Philippines early this year.

The concert will support the sale of "Leyte: The Benefit CD," produced and compiled by Perf De Castro, which was released last summer. The CD contains songs from Filipino and Filipino-American artists aimed at helping the families and victims of the calamity. It boasts of songs performed by Bleud, Raincrowd, Piece of Mine, Beatrice Gomez, Zigbin, Ritchie Lapaz, Basti Artadi, Perf De Castro, Ben Paltik, Rubberband, A.D.D., The Happy Analogues, The Kuwagos, and the Third Element.

"Upon hearing the Leyte disaster, I threw out the idea of a benefit CD to my fellow musicians and artists here in the US, and they responded enthusiastically. They have sent in donations in forms of their songs. Some were written with the benefit in mind, and some were works that have been pulled out from their archive," said Perf De Castro. "The Leyte Benefit Concert, on the other hand, which will feature bands from both Filipino-American scenes from the East and West Coasts, is a rarity."

West Coast artists participating in the benefit concert include Piece of Mine, Ben Paltik, Ice Candy, Ritchie Lapaz, Raincrowd, Paco Arespacochaga, Jonathan Buencamino, Glenn Jacinto, and Perf de Castro.

Ticket to the concert is at $15.00 each, which comes with a Leyte Benefit CD, $8.00 each on pre-sale, $10.00 each at the door. You may email Rich Rosales of Piece of Mine for tickets at Richard.Rosales@phlb.org or pieceofminemusic@yahoo.com
